A Really Scary 15 Minutes

I had one of the scariest phone calls of my lifetime yesterday. The elementary school called me at work,

Sarah (the after school program employee) Did you pick Paul up from school today?

Me: No Why?

Sarah : He did not come into the aftercare program. Do you think your husband picked him up?

Me : I don't think so, he would have let you know. I will call and ask him. At this time my second office line is ringing and it is my boss, she wants me to come to her office. I ask if it is really important, and proceed to tell her what is going on. By this time my heart is about to beat out of my chest. I hung up and dialed Tim's number. I dialed it wrong three times before I finally got through.

Me: Did you pick Paul up from school today?

Tim: NO I am in Tucson. Why?

Me: He did not show up at the after care program. I will call you back, I am going to call and see if they found him.

Me: I call the school and there is no answer in the office, it goes to voice mail. I try the teachers private line. No answer. I try the office again it goes to voice mail again. I call the aftercare cell phone. Sarah answers: Did you find him?

Sarah: No we are searching the bathrooms and the playground. the teacher is here I want you to talk to her.

Mrs. Shawver: would he have gotten on the bus?

Me I don't think so, he would be to scared.

Mrs Shawver: I am going to look up his friends phone numbers and start calling them.

Me: I will call one of the neighbors to see if he is outside my house.

Me: I call Steve who lives across the street. As claim as I can say it, I ask Steve: Steve did you bring Paul home with you?

Steve: uh No!

Me: He is missing, he did not go to the aftercare program and they can't find him.

Steve: What can I do?

Me: Would you please go over to the new neighbors and see if he went home with their little boy. Steve was walking out of the front door as we were on the phone.

Steve: He is with Joey.

Me: what?

Steve: He is out front, walking into Joey's house right now.

Me: Go tell him to call me right now. No wait, don't do anything. I am on my way home right now. (Poor Steve I was probably yelling at him at this point). Don't do anything I am coming home.

I then go to my bosses office. Is there something you need immediately?

Boss: Did they find Paul?

Me: Yes and No he walked home with a neighbor but he is not back at the school.

Boss: You go take care of Paul and come see me tomorrow.

Me: Thank you.

My coworker: Let Paul tell you his side before you kill him.

Me: OK

At this point I gather my stuff and head home knowing I not come back today. I head out the door calling Tim to let him know that I know where Paul is and I am on my way to get him.

I Knock on the neighbors door and ring the door bell.

Joey and Paul answer the door.

Paul: Hi Mom! (Happy as could be) What are you doing here?

Me: The teachers and all the the workers at aftercare are looking for you. They are about to call the Police ( OK this should all be in CAPS ) I was not happy.

Paul: Says nothing just burst into tears and runs home.

Me: I look right at Joey. Don't ever do anything like this again. Paul is only six. I then head home. I make myself a cup of tea and then talk to Paul.

He had decided to walk home with Joey and play video games until I came home.

I Think it will be a longggggggggg time before he tries this again.

I did not beat him and he is still breathing.

The next morning he went to the school and apologized to each person involved. That was probably the worst punishment of all.

Walt Disney World January 2010

Day one Paul is up, dressed, and ready to go when it is still dark. We get to the hotel bus station by 740am.

We decided to go to Disney's Animal Kingdom. We went to many attractions, my favorite, The Festival of the Lion King, beautiful costumes, dancing and singing. the trapeze artists were great too. Paul and I went to see "It's Tough to be a bug show 3D show". Not his most favorite attraction. The bugs were flying right at him and it kind of freaked him out.

Going into "It's Tough to Be a Bug" he is all smiles as he put on the goofy glasses.

We ventured into Dinoland and Paul won lots of prizes at the carnival style games. He won a bear and then a seahorse, later we went back and he won a brightly colored bat . He then traded up with his wins for a large green snake, and traded the seahorse up for a Shark. Tim and Paul had made a deal that he could only bring one home on the plane, so we told him he might want to give the others away.

At the Mickey's Jamm'in Jungle Parade at the end of the day he gave the Bat to a boy about 4 years old. I think giving it away made him happier than the little boy. Then he gave the shark to the little boy's older sister. He came back and told Tim, "I just made two kids really happy."

The safari was our most memorable ride. We spent about an hour on it because one of the animals and her baby decided to rest in the middle of the road about three jeeps ahead of us. So while waiting we took a lot of pictures and visited with the others on the jeep ride. We were not allowed to get off, we just sat and watched the elephants.

Expedition Everest was a great roller coaster. This train zipped through the mountain and brought on a ton of screaming. Paul just held on tight to my arm.

Then we were off to the Kali River rapids. Picture a large inner tube with about 10 seats on it. Yes I took ponchos for all. We not only rode this ride once, we rode it three times in a row. After the first time Paul refused the poncho, preferring to get soaked and soaked is just what he got. Sorry, no pictures... I had wrapped up the camera in a Ziploc and did not get it out for a while.

Though Paul was a few inches too short for many of the attractions we had a wonderful day.

Around 5pm we headed to Downtown Disney to meet Aunt Ellen, John, Becky and her friend Liam for dinner, where else but the T-REX restaurant .

It was outside of this restaurant that we discovered Paul had been wearing his jeans backwards all day. Tomorrow we will not get dressed in the dark.

The Trex burger was as big as Liam's head. I am not saying you have a big noggin or anything Liam, but see for yourself.

You know the flash on that camara can really scare a guy.

I was concerned when he fell off as he tried to go down backwards

but did not interfere, Iwaited about 3 minutes

and when I looked back he was already figuring it all out.

He was on the move again and in search of breakfast.Breakfast today consisted of a handful of Organic spring mix

and a special treat, a hand picked fresh geranium flower and leaf.

The Walsh family is as busy as ever and Tim is working hard at getting our Christmas letter out to friends and family. I am posting a one of our Christmas pictures.

Crush is the latest addition to the Walsh family.

Crush was a gift to Paul for his 6th birthday last month.

Weights in at a whopping 3 1/2 oz's.

He is about 2 1/2 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.

It is June 15th and the apricots are ripe and ready to be picked.

I have to thank my little helper for giving us a hand this year.

A full Morning of picking and we almost had all the fruit off both trees.

We only left behind the really green fruit.

(Grandpa said he could have picked three times as many
if Paul had not been hanging on one of his legs. Excuses excuses)

Disneyland July 2009

This Crazy Group had a great time at Disneyland.

This trip was an early birthday trip for both Lisa and Paul's September Birthdays.

We made last minute plans for this trip deciding Labor day weekend would just be to crowded.

What a Great Day

Summertime is upon us and we we're not ready for 105 degrees.

Soooooooooooooo off we flew to Tennessee on May 21st.

Paul really enjoyed the flight, though the questions never stopped on the way to the to the airport and the entire flight. We left home at 5:00am and I was amazed he never napped all day.
This is a little taste of what the day was like.

Why do the wings on the plane turn up? Where are all these people going? Are we almost there? Why are all these trees by the road? (two hour drive from the airport to Aunt June's house) Do you see what my puppy is doing? Why do I have to be quiet on the plane? Are we almost there? Why are you taking a nap? Why is grandma sleeping? Do you have anything to eat? Why are you guys laughing? Can I have gum? Are we there yet? How much farther? Do you have any treats in your purse? Can you buy me Cheetos's from that machine? Why do I have to drink water? Are we there yet?

Well I think you kind of have an idea what that 8 hours was like. Just remember it was worse than that in person, lucky for Mom and I we were laughing about it the entire way. Each time a question came out of his mouth we would look at each other and just laugh to ourselves, answer his questions and wait for the next one. He is one great kid.

When we arrived at Aunt June and Uncle Eddie's house Paul got his first taste of what it was like to have a cousin around all the time. My cousin Jim and his son Hunter (7) were there waiting at his parents house for us to arrive.

Hunter and Paul hit it off right away. The pool was the place to be the entire week. Paul enjoyed playing with Hunter, they were friends right from the start.
On day 2 of our trip in comes my cousins Brenda and Marcia and Marcia's three year old daughter Rachel. We are now up to 2 young cousins for Paul to meet and play with. Little Rachel was the monkey in the middle with two older boys around.

Day three brings in my cousin Tim and his wife Linda, and their two boys Sam(9) and Leo(7). Now our "cousin count" is up to 5, 4 rowdy Boys and 1 beautiful little Girl. We had an amazing day.

On the evening of day 3 Tim Walsh (too many Tim's!) arrived to surprise not only Paul but all the family too. Lucky him he finally gets to meet all of my crazy relatives.

OK can you roll your tongue? The boys have a lesson on rolling there tongues. We found out a few of us could and a few of us could not roll our tongues, genetics, go figure. Linda is in the "could not" group.

This was a great trip. As I put Paul to bed on the first night he ask are these my cousins forever? Then on day 3 after all the kids were there he asked again if all of these are his cousins for ever and ever? Of course the answer is forever and ever.

By day 5 he was really excited to have a sleepover with all the boys, sleeping in one room on the floor. Linda read the bedtime story and the boys passed out one by one, after a couple were asleep Paul snuck downstairs to get his blanket(cuddles) and his stuffed dog Oreo, then went right up and went to sleep.

What a wonderful spring day at the zoo.

I joined the kindergarten on their field trip to the zoo.

Paul and a few of his friends made lists of the animal they saw while walking around.
Paul and I had a wonderful surprise, we ran into the Shill family, little Joey is growing quickly and Heather tells us he is already trying to walk at just 9 months old. (squash that Heather) We were even able to steel a few baby kisses from Joey and Ryan.

This is just what it looks like, my knitting. I am just learning to Knit. This is a sock, it is a toddler size. I have learned to turn the heal. This may sound easy but it was not, knitting with four of those double pointed needles took some practice.
I am having a great time learning how to knit and since this is my blog I guess I can post whatever I want. I hope you all enjoy my bits of knitting. There is sure to be more to follow.

February 8th 2009

Paul got up from 3am to 4am and would not go back to sleep. I finally told him I was going back to my own bed and for him to go to sleep.
As I lay in bed trying to go to sleep, I heard the lid to the cookie jar. (Full of fish crackers) I figured he would just get in bed with us soon. I rolled over and finally fell back to sleep. When I woke up at 605 and realized I was late, I jumped up and got in the shower got dressed and did my hair, at 640 went to wake Paul. He is not in his bed and was not in ours. I checked the top bunk, no Paul. I ran in to the living room checked the couch, no Paul. I ran back to his room checked under all of the stuffed animals no Paul, checked the top bunk again. My heart is really beating fast at this point. I ran back to my room yelling at Tim that Paul is not in his bed or on the couch, ran down the stairs to check the guest room, not there either. I ran back in his room again. No Paul, My heart is really racing now. By this time I am screaming at Tim, and Paul is still nowhere to be found. Where is he? I ran back in to my room again to look under the waterbed where the dogs sleep, and there is Paul beside our bed curled up on the dog bed with his head on the pillows in the corner. I ran and got the camera, yelling for Tim to come and check out the Kodak moment that had unfolded during those minutes of panic. As I start to take his picture, he starts to giggle. He was awake the entire time I was panicking!! I wanted to hurt him. I sat holding him and waited for my heart to quit racing.

What a morning.

We had a very quiet Thanksgiving this year.

Lots of food and football too.

The day of the wedding Paul while still in the dressing room, discovers the matchbox car in the ring bearers pillow that was suppose to entertain him during the ceremony. When it was time for him to walk Caitlin down the isle he is way to busy running the car up and down the arms of the pews. So Caitlin walks alone, and as Dad walks Lisa down the isle they were not even able to coax him to follow them.

Lisa is the only one he will let dress him the day of the wedding.The melt down began early in the day.

Beautiful day the weather could not have been nicer. The dinner was great and the only mishap all evening was a bloody lip on Paul from a spill on the dance floor. The Photo booth was the biggest draw for the guests. Tim and Lisa were able to take home an instant scrapbook of the event.
